We all have opinions on what we do for work or how we make a living, but we don't always share them openly. We want to know what people really think about their jobs. Do they feel fulfilled in what they do or does it drain them every day? Do they make enough money or does going to work feel like moving backward?

It's the big verboten question of our time, and we're going to ask it! How much do you make? This will be part of our interactive elements at The New Narrative presents; Work/Money.

Do you have a story to share about debt? If so, we'd love to hear it. We’re planning out a set of interactive experiences for The New Narrative presents: Work/Money. We’re asking for you to share your anonymous debt stories with us.

Our world is full of beliefs and conceptions about work and money. Some of them are valuable, but a lot of them are simply misleading and untrue. Share some of the most common beliefs and notions you’ve had about Work and Money with us. We’ll display them, and ask for more, at the event.

We’re looking for volunteers for our next major event, The New Narrative presents: Work/Money. We can use your help with everything from setting up chairs to posting on social media to helping us create some engaging interactive elements of the event and more.

The New Narrative is currently soliciting speakers for our next major event on the theme of Work/Money. If you have a story to share, we’d love to hear from you. We want to explore this theme from the perspective of Power, Identity, and Perception.

What mindsets guide us when it comes to work and money? Do these mindsets actually serve us? What happens when these mindsets are challenged? The third sub themes we want to explore for the New Narrative event on Work/Money is Perception.

Who we are and how we appear in the world can greatly influence the opportunities for work and money that are available to us. What we do for a living and how much money we make can also influence how the world perceives us and what we think of ourselves. The second of three sub themes we want to explore for the New Narrative event on the theme of Work/Money is Identity. What story ideas do you have for this sub theme?

There’s an obvious power dynamic involved with work and money in our world. They exist as omnipresent institutions in our thoughts and daily endeavors. No matter how much we try, it’s nearly impossible to go more than a couple minutes without thinking about both. We’re interested to hear your story ideas that could work for the Work/Money/Power theme of our upcoming event.

We’re getting to work on the next major event of the New Narrative and are currently looking for speakers. The theme is going to be Work/Money. If you have any thoughts or leads on potential speakers for this theme we’d love to hear from you. Perhaps you have a story to share too!  

The New Narrative introduces ReThink, a new event series focused on facilitated discussions on the topics that matter to us most.

Melissa Tucker shares her story of being a single, 40-year-old pastor exploring the message she received about dating from growing up in the church and trying to have something close to dating life now in her unique role now. "Whether you grew up in Christian subculture or not, you'll likely remember those 'WWJD' bracelets that stood for "What would Jesus do?".

Evita Sawyers shares a story of how she came into her sexuality and thus discovered herself.

"To me, the biggest benefit of the life I live now is the self-discovery. I don’t feel like I’m doing something new. I feel like I found a new way to be old me."

Gabi Schaffzin is a recovering capitalist who is currently pursuing his PhD in Visual Arts at UC San Diego. His art and research consider the visual representation of pain and illness in a technologically mediated world. This story provides some insight into why this topic is so important to him.

CZ Firestone, known to their loved ones affectionately as “Syra” or “Sy”, is a writer, intellectual, and youth advocate serving in the community of San Diego in both activist and organizing spaces. Their work centers on the intersections of race, gender, class, sexuality, disability, social and restorative justice

Ozzie Monge is a, among other roles, a Lecturer at San Diego State University in the Department of American Indian Studies. Ozzie’s professional interests focus on the social and political issues deriving from settler colonialism, always with an eye, mind, and heart to aspire towards decolonization.

Looking for speakers for the second event of the New Narrative on the theme of Communication

Ever since the George Floyd murder and the Black Lives Matter protests began a couple of weeks ago, I’ve certainly gone through my own process of better understanding my part in systematic racism, how I can do better going forward, and how I intend to personally react to the situation now. While I’m working through all that for myself, I also have another set of questions about how The New Narrative should respond to what’s going on too. I’d love to open up a discussion on this with anybody who has thoughts to share.

Last night’s Daring Stories was a wonderful and bittersweet experience.

The New Narrative unveils Daring Stories, a live community storytelling event with a mix of open mic and featured storytellers exploring the daring situations we all step into in life.

The New Narrative hosts a special panel discussion with local leaders to share their knowledge and insight on political advocacy and working for change on a local level. We'll talk about what advocacy is, how it works and how we all can get involved.

We’re trying something extra for The New Narrative this time around by including a handful of interactive elements to the event. Your participation is encouraged!
