Discover Ourselves, Build Community, Change the Narrative

A lot has changed in the world since we started The New Narrative in 2015. At the time we thought it would be important to start a conversation on the power of social narratives, how they hold us in their grip, and subtly but powerfully guide society towards a status quo.

Six years later, the conversations we were hoping to create are happening. We’re rethinking our jobs, our concept of family, how we value each other, and how we value ourselves. We’re willing to see differences as strengths and explore the many facets of love that can exist in this world. We’re talking more openly about who we really are and the struggles we all face with our sense of value, worthiness, and how we show up in the world.

Because of all this, we’ve decided that it’s time for The New Narrative to develop a new mission, one that builds upon everything that’s been gained, but to also chart an ambitious path forward and bring something new to the community.

Our new mission is to support the creation of an open and diverse community of folks actively engaged in the day-to-day practice of learning and growing individually, in relationship with each other, and the wider world around us; expressing and connecting with ourselves more authentically through our stories; finding joy and nourishment in life; and leaning into the hard work of addressing social inequities.

Essentially we’re looking to merge social justice work with community building, having fun, and working on ourselves. We don't see these things as mutually exclusive, in fact we see them as integral to each other if we’re going to make progress.

We’d love to have you join us for this work. We’ll be sharing more about it in the days and weeks to come. In meantime we’d love to hear from you. Like, share, and tell us what stands out in the comments.

Thanks,

Nathan Young
