In America it’s imperative to have a job, career or some source of income. Money is necessary to pay rent, buy food, and maintain even the most basic of leisure and lifestyles.
Some of us enjoy what we do for work, feel it aligns with our values, or at the very least that the paycheck is enough to justify the misalignments our work brings. Others of us struggle to find meaning in our employments, suffer through every workday, and feel like we’re sacrificing too much for a paycheck. Others still struggle to find employment, deal through discrimination, abuse, a lack of opportunities, and a host of other injustices in the name of work, money, and a free market society.
What do we want our relationship with Work and Money to be in the New Narrative? What mindsets do we need to inhabit to create a healthy society that serves all communities? Can we be prosperous while sticking to our values? If not, how much of a sacrifice are we willing to make? Can we work within the current system or is it time to “burn it all down?”
This will be the next featured social event of the New Narrative, inviting speakers from the arts, academia, activist, science, spirituality, business and neighborhood communities to share their stories, insights, and experiences on the theme of Work/Money.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The talks will begin at 7:30 p.m. We’ll have a number of different interactive elements of the event to explore before the speakers take the stage. Food and drink will be available for purchase from San Diego Taco Company.
